The Harbin Ice Festival in subarctic China welcomes over 18 million visitors a year and features a Siberian tiger zoo, dragon boat races, and colorful ice sculptures of famous architecture, so it seemed like an interesting event to rebrand. Inspired by the massive snow carvings and Chinese New Year–the busiest time for the festival–I designed a comprehensive campaign to attract winter-loving tourists worldwide. The logo combines a snowflake with a Chinese knot, and live-traced images of the sculptures put them at the forefront of advertising. An important aspect of this project was to design merchandise that people would actually use, like hot chocolate packets, hoodies and snow scrapers.
